Honduras Medical Mission

Join Us in Making a Difference

Since 1982, the Diocese of Mississippi has been sending a medical mission team to Honduras, with St. Peter's actively participating since 1985. St. Peter’s has sponsored the Honduras Medical Mission (HMM) in 1990, 1991, 2012, and 2013, and the Vestry has recently voted to support the mission once again in 2025 and 2026. Scott and Kathy Knight have generously volunteered to lead the St. Peter's team for these upcoming missions.

Our Mission

The Honduras Medical Mission is a vital outreach program that requires the collaboration and dedication of volunteers both in Oxford and Honduras. The mission involves assembling a team of 30 volunteers, including physicians, dentists, veterinarians, pharmacists, optometrists, nurses, clergy, translators, and support personnel. These dedicated individuals will work alongside an equal number of drivers, cooks, and support personnel from the village of San Joaquin.

Impactful Work

During a typical mission, the combined team of Mississippians and Hondurans provides medical assistance to approximately 3,000 people in the medical clinic, dispenses 20,000 prescriptions, extracts 1,200 decayed teeth, fits eyeglasses for hundreds, and treats over 1,000 animals.

How You Can Help

The success of the Honduras Medical Mission depends on a collective effort. As preparations for the 2025 and 2026 missions begin in March 2024, Scott and Kathy Knight will need assistance in various areas, including:

  • Advertising the mission

  • Fundraising for medicine and medical supplies

  • Acknowledging and thanking donors

  • Writing proposals

  • Accounting for receipts and expenditures

  • Buying and packing supplies and medicine

  • Making travel arrangements

  • Coordinating logistics in Honduras

  • Engaging local assistance for cooking, crowd control, and patient registration

Get Involved

It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, but at St. Peter's, we believe it takes a parish to raise a medical mission. We invite you to consider your own gifts, talents, and training and to discern how you might contribute to the success of the Honduras Medical Mission sponsored by St. Peter’s in 2025 and 2026. Contact Scott and Kathy Knight if you can help and in what capacity. Specific requests and needs will be communicated in more detail starting March 2024.

Your involvement can make a significant impact on the lives of those in need, and together, we can continue the tradition of providing essential medical care to the people of San Joaquin and surrounding villages in Honduras. Join us in this meaningful endeavor and be a part of something truly transformative.
